My lovely friend Lora Grady of Lora Grady Photography and her darling hubby Dan celebrated their anniversary with a rustic woodland photo shoot, captured by Alyssia B. Photography. I put together a coordinating bouquet of creamy white ranunculus and spray roses. The bouquet was romantic and lush with lots of green, like it had been recently gathered from the surrounding fields and trees. I love how the bouquet complimented the textures of their wardrobe: the lace in Lora’s dress, the leather shoes and belt, and the gray wool of Dan’s jacket. The result? Images that perfectly resonate Lora’s beauty, both inside and out!

In celebration of our upcoming anniversary (April 19th!) I thought I’d share a few of my favorite photos from the first half of our wedding day in Saratoga Springs, NY. It was beautiful outside, in the low 70s (almost unheard of for April), and we spent the morning getting ready with our closest friends and family. The entire day was so lighthearted, I can’t help but grin when I see the smiling faces of everyone around us…
April is one of my favorite months for several reasons: One being it’s that time of year when new life becomes abundant and my favorite flowers start to bloom (hello peonies!). Two, I love the soft colors that come with spring (white, blush, peach, butter yellow, cool mint…swoon). And last but not least, it’s the month I said “I do” to my best friend and partner in crime. I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since we walked down the aisle. Last year at this time I was busy finalizing details and welcoming family and friends into town. This year, we’ll be spending our anniversary tucked away at a quiet winery in British Columbia, and while I miss the excitement of the impending big day, it’ll be nice to just relax and refocus on each other. Here’s a look at one of my favorite photos from that day. More to come as our date gets closer!
Who said crisp was a thing of the fall!? When I had a craving for those cinnamony-sugar crumbles, I decided to improvise and use the ingredients I had. This tangy but sweet berry crisp was the result, and when topped with a dollop of old fashioned vanilla ice cream or homemade whipped cream it becomes dessert at its finest (and it only takes about a half hour from start to finish!) When baked individually, it would make a wonderful addition to a dessert bar at a rustic wedding, and can even be packaged up as a pretty little favor (sans cream of course!).
Moving to Seattle was never on my radar growing up. From upstate New York, it was distant land that mainly existed in Grey’s Anatomy episodes. But it’s kind of funny because the idea of the city has seemed to follow me throughout my life. In fifth grade we did a project on the fifty states. For some reason, I was drawn to Washington and chose to study Seattle and it’s surroundings. Little did my 10 year-old self know then, this city would become such a large part of who I am.
I love it’s history and it’s sense of youth. This city makes you feel your big dreams are valid and attainable. There is this drive for the discovery of new things; things few others have yet to try or do. Yes, some would call this “hipster”, but I think it’s exciting.
This city is full of tiny corner shops and bustling market streets. It doesn’t rain quite as often as everyone says it does, and it’s home to an extraordinary set of active, creative people trying to make their mark.
This city has taught me that the world isn’t as large as we think it is, and with some hard work and the right people in your corner, anything is possible.
In the Pacific Northwest, we are blessed with green year round, especially along the coastline. Yet, I still find myself feeling giddy at the thought of spring, bringing fresh buds to the trees and a sweet, clean smell to the air. Our bridal shoot was inspired by the cool, early days of spring along the romantic coastline of Whidbey Island, WA. The green rolling hills, weathered farmhouses, and gray misty coast set the perfect backdrop for an ethereal shoot, transporting us to the Irish countryside. Go ahead and get lost…
The dress choice was inspired by intricate Irish lace crochet, a popular choice for wedding dresses in the early twentieth century, fitting perfectly with the beaded floral headpiece and authentic vintage jewelry.The color palette was pulled from the picturesque surroundings and stemmed from a base of ivories, golds and deep emeralds, which were worked in through floral and accessory choice.
The wonderful team of like-minded, creative women behind the scenes really made this shoot come alive. It is so refreshing to work with talented individuals who truly love what they do and can effectively collaborate, while enjoying each and every minute. We weathered cold temperatures and some seriously harsh winds, but these whimsical photos made it all worthwhile.
Growing up, we knew company was coming when the house smelled of anisette cookies. My mom always whipped up a batch right before friends stopped by for a visit. The traditional Italian cookie gets its flavoring from the anise extract, and while it looks like biscotti, and uses the same twice-baked procedure, these cookies are much softer and doughier (although I tend to under-bake all my cookies…purposefully!). They would make a sweet addition to a brunch-style bridal shower (think cookie bar!) and would be a great wedding favor for an afternoon affair. They are the perfect easy, all-around-likeable recipe for a chat over tea or with a good old-fashioned glass of milk, and are even better dipped in chocolate!
